
Ahsan Butt is currently a PhD student in the department of political science at the University of Chicago. He received his BA in International Studies from Ohio Wesleyan University and his MA in Political Science from the University of Chicago.
His areas of interest are international relations, hierarchy and anarchy in the international system, ethnic conflict, and secession. His dissertation will focus on the variation in state response to ethno-nationalist independence movements, and deal with the importance of third parties in civil conflict.
